New Museum Smell Station in Vienna

Wien Museum has opened a new exhibition on the emotive topic of meat, its history and its impact on the world. Titled Meat, the exhibition is open until 22nd February 2026.

AromaPrime was approached for the development of scents for a smell station. Multiple custom blends were explored, with the final two scents being those of Bacon and Overcooked Bacon.

The Museum used dry diffusion for their smell station, which is recommended from a conservation perspective. Visitors can squeeze bulbs to push air into scent containers, letting scented air puff from little holes that they can sniff. This is a popular approach in museums, as it allows visitors to choose whether to access the scents, and it limits the spread of scent in the gallery.

Liam R. Findlay, Museum Scent Consultant, oversaw this project and says:

"Our team is delighted to have contributed to this thought-provoking exhibition. AromaPrime has been making museum smells for decades, whether for interactive smell stations or atmospheric displays. In 2025, it seems that more museums than ever are using smells to engage visitors. It is no surprise, considering how strongly a smell can make us feel. Olfaction is an excellent means of engaging visitors' emotions as they explore a topic, and for keeping the experience in their memories for years to come.

"I encourage everyone to visit Wien Museum's new exhibition while they have the chance."
