New AromaPrime Display in Rainforest Attraction

AromaPrime recently worked with design company THEME3 for a stinky interactive at Swansea’s Plantasia!

Plantasia is an indoor rainforest, and it recently underwent a £1m+ renovation. All sorts of vibrant, sensory interactives were added to engage and educate visitors.

THEME3 developed an amazing smelly display, featuring models of the jungle’s most pungent plants! Beside these models are perfume bottles, which visitors can sniff for an authentic impression of what the plants smell like in real life.

We loved watching whole families crowd around the bottles with curiosity, and seeing their hilarious reactions to the smells!

AromaPrime advised THEME3 on the best way to dispense these smells in a safe, practical way. We suggested using Aroma Cubes, which museums often use to conceal fragrances inside small spaces (such as pull-out drawers). Using Aroma Cubes is also a low-maintenance solution, since there are no electrical or mechanical elements to consider.

For the jasmine perfume in the display, we supplied our pleasant Jasmine aroma. On the other hand, the corpse lily and titan arum plants’ pongs are often compared to decaying bodies, so we suggested two of our most eye-watering odours for them: Rubbish Acrid and Flatulence! These smells leave a sour tinge in people’s noses, so they were the perfect choice for truly visceral reactions.

Smell is a fun way to draw in visitors of all ages, educating them without them even realising they’re learning something! Yet, because of how our minds retain aromas in our memories for years, it is a learning experience that these visitors won’t soon forget.
